Wood to Wheel - Join the Celebrations!

Porthkerry Country Park

Wednesday 16 August 2017

 

We’re celebrating the completion of work on the Cwm Ciddy Saw Mill, funded by HLF grant. There will be free activities from 12.00pm to 3.30pm in the woods including carving, willow weaving and face painting.

 

 

Experience the magic of nature as environmental arts group, Rowanbank, take you on a magical woodland walk with trapeze through Porthkerry Woods.

 

This event is free but you will need to have a ticket to attend as numbers are limited.

Family Walk - The History and wildlife of Dunraven

 

Meet at the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Centre at 10:30am. 

 

Join the rangers on a guided walk around Dunraven Park to learn about the history of Dunraven house and the wildlife that lives in the local area.

Meet at the Glamorgan Heritage Coast centre 11:00am.

 

Join us to discover what lives in the pools and under the rocks on the beach at Dunraven

Bug Hunt

 

Meet at the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Centre 10:30am.

 

Join us to look for invertebrates around the woodland and grassland of Dunraven. 

 

Suitable for 7 years and up.

Bug Making Hotel

 

Meet at the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Centre 11:00am.

 

Help construct a bug hotel to take away. All materials provided.

Ghostly Goings On

October 29, 30, 31 2017

 

Come along to Cosmeston Medieval Village for a tour with a difference. Hear all about paranormal activity that has been witnessed by staff and paranormal investigation teams like UK Ghost Hunts and the South Wales Paranormal Research. What secrets will be revealed about the people who used to live here? Are you brave enough to book onto a tour?

 

Tour time 3pm (tour will last 45-60minutes)

 

Cost: £7.50 per person (pre-paid booking only)

Suitable for: Advisory notice, children may be frightened and must be accompanied by an adult.

A free event all day at Porthkerry – including Rowanbank – who provide a fun, magical, interactive  woodland experience, plus willow weaving, carving and other woodland activities – funded by HLF grant for Cwm Ciddy Saw Mill project.

 

Wednesday 23 August – Survival Skills
Join the rangers and learn how the build a shelter and make a fire!

 

Cost £3 per child (pre-paid only)

Suitable for 7 – 11 year olds

Spooky Halloween Tales

Halloween returns to Cosmeston Medieval Village on October 29, 30 and  31

 

The Children’s Halloween tour will run at 10:30am only. (tour will last 45-60minutes)

 

On these days only the bravest will be granted access to search and discover the spooky tales of Old Cosmeston Village. Children will be led on an atmospheric tour as they discover All Hallows Eve has come.

 

Cost £5 per child (pre-paid booking only)

All children must be accompanied by an adult

Age Cymru, Nordic Walking Courses

Age Cymru offers regular Nordic Walking courses at Cosmeston Lakes for the over 50s. The courses are run over five consecutive weeks, each session lasting approximately two hours. Days and times vary according to demand. All poles are supplied for the course. 

  

The sessions give an opportunity to try out some of the techniques in this fast growing and enjoyable form of exercise.

Walking 

With a variety of woodlands, beaches and commons there are plenty of places to explore by foot across our countryside and coastal areas. Pop into one of our visitor centres for walking guides, orienteering routes, maps and nature trails.

The Glamorgan Heritage Coast is now easily accessible for cyclists along the road from Cardiff to Bridgend. You can also take a ride through our country parks and explore the nature and wildlife along the way.

With 14 miles of coastline, it’s no wonder that the water is a hot spot for locals and visitors alike. Visit the Heritage Coast Centre or Cosmeston Lakes for more information about surfing, kayaking, diving, paddle boarding and windsurfing.
