New Computer Management System

After months of planning and a few weeks of down time, Libraries in the Vale launched the new Library Management System this week (10/07/2017). They joined  8 other Welsh public  library authorities already on SirsiDynix Symphony and will be followed by the remaining 14 library authorities in Wales who will sign up over the next 18 months.

The updated library system will provide many positive improvements for customers. The most visible improvement at the moment is the new library catalogue. It is live already and it enables anyone to search all 230,000 items in Vale libraries. The catalogue also has a link on the main page to e-books, e-audio books, e-comics and magazines. It will also show a carousel of selected titles and recent Facebook and twitter posts. As well as this, library members are able to use their previous login and pin to view their own account record, place reservations online and check when their books are due for return.

Library members who haven’t logged on to their account before should ask at their library for a pin number.

Staff in main libraries and volunteers in community libraries will work on the same system with few differences. This means that for the first time the help on the system available to customers should be the same whether they use a main town library or a community led village library.
