5x60 is all about getting secondary school pupils more active, more often by encouraging them to exercise for at least 60 minutes, five days a week.
5x60 officers survey pupils to draw up a wish-list of extra-curricular activities, and then get to work on making as much happen as possible during lunchtimes and after school.
The aim is to provide a mixed programme of sports and activities so that everyone will find something that they enjoy while getting fit at the same time. 5x60 gives pupils the chance to either try out something new or enjoy more of the activities that they already love.
The Welsh Government funded initiative is run by Sport Wales and is supported locally by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Play Development Team.
5x60 is one of the Council's two Active Young People programmes, along with Dragon Sport.
If you are a pupil at a Vale secondary schools and haven’t taken part in a 5x60 activity yet, then see your AYP officer to find out more
If your school days are long behind you, then you can still get involved in 5x60. Key to the success of the scheme is local community sports clubs, coaches and volunteers putting on the sessions that the pupils request. Once a pupil has had a taste of a new sport thanks to 5x60, it is hoped that their enthusiasm leads to them going on to join a local club.
