Active Young People Programme
The Active Young People programme is delivered by the Sports Development Team, encompassing the 5x60 Scheme and the Dragon Sport and Multi-Skills project.
This Active Young People Programme aims to increase the number of 7-16 year olds involved in sport and physical activity.
The Sports Development Team works with a range of partners to ensure there is a variety of age appropriate, progressive, enjoyable sporting opportunities available across the Vale of Glamorgan for children and young people both within extra-curricular and community settings.
The 5x60 Scheme is all about getting secondary school pupils more active more often by encouraging them to exercise for at least 60 minutes, five days a week.
Dragon Multi-Skills and Sport is designed to offer 7-11 year olds fun and enjoyable sporting opportunities. Liaising closely with schools and community sports clubs, the scheme is making a dramatic impact on sports participation amongst this age group.
Each Officer within the Sports Development Team is responsible for a specified area of the Vale, which encompasses the primary schools, secondary schools, clubs and organisations within that area:
- Barry: Rachel Shepherd, Steffan Williams and Simon Jones
- Penarth: Sophie Wilkinson
- Llantwit Major, Cowbridge and Rural Vale: Jessica Abraham
