Register a Birth

All births in England, Wales and Northern Ireland must be registered within 42 days of the child being born.

If your baby was born outside of the Vale of Glamorgan: You can make a declaration at Barry Register Office. The information that you provide will then be posted to the register office in the area where your baby was born and the birth will be registered there. Birth certificates can only be purchased once the birth is registered. If you would like certificates straight away, you will need to make an appointment to register in the district where the baby was born:

University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff: Cardiff Register Office

Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend: Bridgend Register Office

Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant: Rhondda Cynon Taf Register Office

If your baby was born in the Vale of Glamorgan or if you would like to make a declaration and wait for a certificate, please contact us for an appointment:
