Substance Misuse
Vale Alcohol and Drug Team (VADT) is part of the 'Newlands' service based in Barry town.
‘Newlands’ is a service that comprises of NHS and Local Authority (VDAT) staff supporting people (over 18) with substance misuse related difficulties from across the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Local Authority staff include a Substance Misuse Social Worker, Social Care Officer and a support worker. We are both an office based and outreach service.
Working to the 'Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014' this service aims to promote independence and wellbeing through information, advice and assistance whilst working to people's own unique strengths and abilities.
VADT is not an abstinence service but will work with people to establish plans to meet their own personal outcomes and circumstances.
Examples of support are; one to one harm reduction work, access to specialist domiciliary services, assessment for residential rehab' treatment and access to a specialist support worker.
Referrals can be made by individuals, family and friends, as well as other professionals by contacting Cardiff and Vale Alcohol & Drug Service (CAVDAS)
