Adult Protection Training

Specialist training is now available to all Vale of Glamorgan Council staff, especially those who regularly come into contact with vulnerable adults as part of their work and also for people who provide care.

The training available enables participants to understand the important role they have to play in implementing the Wales Interim Procedures for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults 2010.

The Welsh Government 'In Safe Hands' guidance document states: 'It is the duty of every citizen, not just employed staff, to report any concerns they may have in relation to the abuse/inappropriate care or suspected abuse or inappropriate care of a vulnerable adult’.

Level 1 (half day course)

Targets staff who may come into contact with vulnerable adults but are not responsible for their care e.g. domestic and catering staff, administration staff etc.

Level 2 (one day course)

Targets staff who have direct input in client care and/or service provision e.g. support workers, home carers, occupational therapists, social workers, housing officers, leisure centre assistants, front line staff etc.

Quarterly Refresher courses are held to keep staff up to date of developments in safeguarding adults and acts as a reminder about roles and responsibilities.

Gathering Information for Adult Protection Concerns is mandatory for all social workers and social care officers

Bespoke courses are arranged at various levels to meet identified requirements or learning needs.
