Blue Parking Badge Scheme

The European Blue Parking Badge Scheme helps people who have severely restricted mobility, the badge holder may be a driver or passenger.

A car displaying a Blue Badge is allowed to park closer to shops and public buildings, for example in Disabled Parking Bays or on double yellow lines.

If you carry a Blue Badge, you can also use any special local parking facilities when you're visiting a member state of the European Union.

Blue Badge Eligibility

To be eligible for a blue badge you must meet one of the below criteria:

  • Children and adults who are in receipt of the high rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • Those in receipt of Personal Independence Payments (mobility component)
  • People registered as blind under the National Assurance Act, 1948
  • People in receipt of the War Pensions Mobility Supplement

Blue Badge Eligibility Check

Apply for a Blue Badge

All applications are treated like new badge applications, there are no renewal applications.

Blue Badges usually cover a three year period, and after this you can be reassessed. We recommend that you apply for a new badge at least five weeks prior to the expiry date of your current badge.

Please Note: If you are under 65 years old, not in receipt of High Rate Mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance, and have not applied for Personal Independence Payments you should do so prior to applying for a Blue Car Badge. This will provide proof of eligibility and speed up your application. Please ring 0800 9172222 for a PIP application form.

When you receive your badge you will be given an information leaflet about the badge and how to use it. It is important that you read this leaflet carefully as it tells you about the ways in which the Badge can't be used.
