Carers' Rights Day - Information

Having the right information at the right time can make a huge difference when you are looking after someone. The next Carers' Rights Day will take place on Friday 30 November 2018.

Barry Communities First - Digital Drop-ins 

Barry Community First run drop-in sessions where you can get access to a computer and the internet with one of our support workers to improve your computer skills for FREE! No booking is required. 

  • Tuesdays, 10.00am - 12.00pm at the Community Enterprise Centre, Skomer Road, Barry.
  • Wednesdays, 1.00pm - 3.00pm at the Margaret Alexander Community Centre, Alexandra Crescent, Barry.
  • Thursdays, 1.00pm - 3.00pm at Victoria Park Community Centre, Church Road, Barry

Communities for Work (CFW)

Do you live in a Community First area of Barry? CFW is a voluntary project where can offer 1-2-1 help, support and guidance on job search, CVs, application forms, interview skills and training.


  • Must reside in a Community First Cluster 
  • Long Term unemployed: In receipt of JSA over 12 months or Work Programme returners
  • 16-24 year olds: NEET - Not in Employment, Education or Training
  • Economically inactive:ESA customers; Incapacity Benefit customers; Unemployed not claiming; Partners; People with caring responsibilities; People in receipt of PIP/DLA

Alzheimer's Society - Carers' Information and Support Programme (Dementia Awareness)

The Carer Information and Support Programme (CrISP) provides carer information in a group environment where carers are able to share their experiences and find out about local and national services that may be of help. CrISP is delivered by trained local staff and supported by volunteers.

Dementia From the Inside (New Video from Social Care Institute for Excellence, SCIE)

In this film we find out what it might feel like to live with dementia. Viewers will experience a little of what it is like to find yourself in a world that seems familiar and yet doesn’t always make sense.


The incidents pictured in this film and memories recounted are based upon true experiences gathered from people living with dementia.  The film is valuable for anyone who supports people with dementia.

The sessions are free and friendly and you can come and go as you like. Drop-in sessions are being set up across the Vale in libraries and community centres.

National Autistic Society (NAS) Cardiff and Vale Branch - Barry Coffee Mornings

NAS branches offer support to families who have a child or member of the family with autism or Aspergers syndrome. 


These events are primarily aimed at parents/carers of children/adults with autism and may also be of interest to professionals working with families who live with autism.A chance to meet and talk to other parents and carers of children and adults with autism, over a cup of tea/coffee and cake in a friendly, welcoming environment.  


Please note: these events are not restricted to NAS Branch members.  They are open to anyone who has concerns and would like to know more about autism.

Primary Mental Health Support Service (PMHSS)

The Primary Mental Health Support Service (PMHSS) is a service for people of all ages living with mental health difficulties. The service covers all areas of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. It is provided by the NHS and is free of charge.


These courses in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan are open access, so there is no need to book a place - just show up.  In the unlikely event that a venue is full, places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
