Vale of Glamorgan Shared Lives

Being a Shared Lives Carer is so much more than a job, it is a way of life and there are many benefits. It`s a rewarding role enabling someone to live their best life and flourish with your support.

Thanks to the support of our wonderful carers, the scheme has already had an enormous impact on many families in the Vale.

A copy of our Annual Inspection Report  is available on the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) website.

  • How the service works

Shared Lives is available in the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend County Borough.

We recruit, assess, train and support our carers, and 'match' them with individuals. We monitor placements so that both carers and individuals benefit.

    We offer:

    • Long Term Placements

    • Short Term Placements

    • Emergency Placements for up to 28 days

    • Respite placements

    • Additional Support (within the Vale of Glamorgan only)

  • Who the service supports

Shared Lives is available for people aged over 18 with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health problems or dementia, who have been assessed as having a need for accommodation and support.

  • Benefits of being a carer

Some of the benefits of being a carer include:

    • Earn a living – our carers across the services earn between £400 - £570.43 per person supported, per week which is subject to special tax arrangements. Carers can support up to 3 individuals in their homes

    • Be part of an exciting scheme that at the heart of it helps people live their best life

    • Access to ongoing training and development

    • Ongoing support from an allocated Project Worker

  • How this supports individuals in the life they lead
The aim of Shared Lives is to support the individual to develop the practical, social, and emotional skills to make their own choices in life and be as independent as possible, whilst remaining at the heart of their community.
