Families First

The Welsh Government provide funding to local authorities to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.

 

 

Each local authority had developed a Families First Action Plan which sets out how they will implement Families First locally:

  • working age people in low income families gain, and progress within employment
  • children, young people and families, in or at risk of poverty, achieve their potential
  • children, young people and families are healthy and enjoy well-being
  • families are confident, nurturing resilient and safe.

 

We will also be establishing performance measures to tell us how well the programme is performing within local authorities.

Families First supports the Welsh Government's child poverty strategy and works alongside other programmes:

 

 

Workforce Development

As part of the Families First initiative, we are keen to support all partners in developing their skills to ensure that families receive the same supportive messages from all professionals working with them. The following training will be offered on a rolling basis free of charge to partners:

  • Solution Focussed Training
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Child Protection (level 1)
  • Nurturing programme

One off training related to specific areas of identified concern or need will also be made available.
