Biography

 

Jonathan was born in Barry in 1963 and has lived in Dyffryn since 1967 where he lives with wife Janet. Jonathan has 2 daughters and a granddaughter who also live in Dyffryn.

 

Jonathan was educated at St Nicholas school then on to Radyr Comprehensive school. After leaving school he studied as an engineer at Rumney Tech and then went on to Usk college to study agriculture. Jonathan has farmed in Dyffryn and other parts of the Vale of Glamorgan for the whole of his career, with the farm changing from a mixed livestock and arable farm to an all arable farm with some other diverse business that have developed over the years. These are a fishing and wedding/function venue. Jonathan has also been involved in another family business supplying pot plants to multinational supermarkets which was sold in 2014.

 

Jonathans involvement in local politics started about 20 years ago when he stood for the community council in Wenvoe, his interest in local government continued to grow and he stood for election to the Vale of Glamorgan in 2008 and was elected as the member for the ward of Wenvoe which he has held to date.

 

During his time at the Vale of Glamorgan his interest in the Planning part of council has grown starting as a member of planning committee where he was made vice chair which he held for 4 years. Other committees he has worked on have been Housing Scrutiny (Chair), Welsh Church Act, Audit Scrutiny, Corporate Recourses Scrutiny.

 

Jonathan is currently the cabinet member for Regeneration and Planning which he is finding extremely interesting, he has many ambitions for the Vale of Glamorgan at which he is working hard to achieve.
