EARLY RETIREMENT / REDUNDANCY COMMITTEE

 

Minutes of a meeting held on 18th December, 2017.

 

Present:  Councillor Mrs. R. Nugent-Finn (Chairman); Councillors Mrs. P. Drake, S.T. Edwards, G. John, Mrs. A. Moore and N.C. Thomas.

 

 

562     MINUTES –

 

RESOLVED – T H A T the minutes of the meeting held on 20th November, 2017 be approved as a correct record, subject to it being noted that Councillor V.J. Bailey had not, in fact, been present at the meeting.

 

 

563     DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST –

 

No declarations were received.

 

 

564     EXCLUSION OF PRESS AND PUBLIC –

 

RESOLVED – T H A T under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following item of business on the grounds that it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Part 4 of Schedule 12A (as amended) of the Act, the relevant paragraphs of the Schedule being referred to in brackets after the minute heading.

 

 

565     APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF FLEXIBLE RETIREMENT – B (HNST) (EXEMPT INFORMATION – PARAGRAPHS 13 AND 14) –

 

Consideration was given to an application extend the flexible retirement in respect of one employee within the Directorate of Environment and Housing.

 

RESOLVED –

 

(1)       T H A T the extension of flexible retirement of B in accordance with the Council's policy, subject to no other circumstances arising in the interim whereby the employment were to be terminated for a different reason, be approved.

 

(2)       T H A T the use of the appropriate delegated powers be endorsed, to enable B to continue in employment until 30th April, 2018 with the hours remaining at 22 per week (as previously agreed by the Committee on 27th June, 2016) effective from 11th January, 2018. That the retirement of B from employment with the Council takes place on or before 1st May, 2018, providing no other circumstances arise in the interim whereby the employment were to be terminated for a different reason.

 

Reasons for decisions

 

(1)       To determine the flexible retirement application within the regulations and to allow for eventualities that may not be known at this time.

 

(2)       To achieve the necessary change to the employee's flexible retirement date, to assist service continuity, provide appropriate support to assist the employee's transition to retirement, to contribute to ongoing critical projects within the service and support improved succession planning. The reduction in hours will also represent a continued saving to the department without significant detriment to the team.
