Report of the Director of Social Services

Recruitment and Selection Arrangements for the Head of Resource Management and Safeguarding

Purpose of the Report

  1. To provide the Committee with an update on the recruitment and selection arrangements for the post of Head of Resource Management and Safeguarding and to ask the Committee to confirm a short-list of candidates for final interview.

Recommendation

  1. To note the information presented within the report and confirm a shortlist of candidates for final interview.

Reason for the Recommendation

  1. To ensure the appointment is in accordance with the Councils Constitution.

Background

  1. The Senior Management Appointment Committee met on the 19th July 2017 and agreed the advert.
  2. It was agreed that the shortlisting for technical interview would be delegated to the Cabinet Member and the Director of Social Services. 5 applications were received by the closing date on Sunday 17th September.
  3. Candidates will be shortlisted for technical interview and an assessment centre.
  4. Interviews will take place on 3rd October and will be carried out by the Director of Social Services and the Head of Finance.

Relevant Issues and Options

  1. It is requested that the Senior Management Appointment Committee delegate responsibility to the Director of Social Services and the Head of Finance to select candidates for interview by the Committee.
  2. A summary of the outcome of the officer interview and assessment centre will be given at this future meeting of the Senior Management Appointment Committee.
  3. The application details for the short listed candidates will be available at the meeting together with a suggested presentation topic to be delivered by candidates as part of their final interview.

  1. The vacancy is a consequence of the current post holder having been promoted.
