Summary of draft Self Evaluation Report of Local Authority Education Services for Children and Young People

 

Purpose of the Report

1.             To seek the comments of the Committee in relation to the summary of the draft Self Evaluation Report to obtain delegated authority to approve the final Self Evaluation Report.

Recommendations

1.             Members are invited to comment on the summary of the draft Self Evaluation Report.

2.             Delegated authority is given to the Chief Learning and Skills Officer in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Children's Services to approve the final Self Evaluation Report.

Reasons for the Recommendations

1.             To ensure that the Self Evaluation Report is an accurate evaluation of education services for children and young people.

2.             To obtain approval for the Self Evaluation Report.

Background

2.             The education service will be inspected by Estyn in the week beginning 20th May 2013.

3.             A report to the previous meeting provided information about the inspection framework.

Relevant Issues and Options

4.             In preparation for the inspection and drawing on regular cycles of monitoring and evaluation, there is an expectation that a self evaluation report will be prepared ahead of the inspection.  The draft self evaluation report is a relatively lengthy document and the summary attached at Appendix 1 has been produced for convenience.

5.             A report seeking comments from Lifelong Learning Scrutiny Committee will be presented to their meeting on the 18th March 2013.

6.             Comments on the draft document are also being sought from a range of other groups. 

7.             Any comments received from Scrutiny and other groups will be considered in preparing the final Self Evaluation Report.
