Agenda Item No

The Vale of Glamorgan Council

Cabinet Meeting: 16 June, 2014

Report of the Leader

Representation on Vale of Glamorgan Best Kept Village Competition Committee

Purpose of the Report

1.         To appoint representatives to the Vale of Glamorgan Best Kept Village Competition Committee to replace Councillors Kate Edmunds and Rhona Probert.

Recommendation

That Cabinet appoint a Member to replace Councillors Edmunds and Probert on the Vale of Glamorgan Best Kept Village Competition Committee ; overall Council representation to then comprise 3 Members.

Reason for the Recommendation

To maintain the Council's representation.

Background

2.         Following the elections in May 2012, the Council appointed Councillors Edmunds and Probert as two of its four representatives on the Vale of Glamorgan Best Kept Village Competition Committee.  The other two representatives are Councillors Gwyn John and Audrey Preston.

Relevant Issues and Options

3.         Since the original appointments were made, it has become apparent that, given their other commitments, Councillors Edmunds and Probert are, regrettably, unable to give the required commitment to carry out the appointments.  As such, Cabinet is requested to appoint two replacements in order that the Council's level of representation to which it is entitled is maintained.  There are, generally, four meetings a year (including an AGM in January), which take place in the evenings.  There is also a possibility of the appointees being involved in judging of the competition.

4.         Following discussions with the Secretary of the Competition, and given the nature of the appointment, it is considered that a total of 3 Council representatives will suffice.
