The Vale of Glamorgan Council

Cabinet Meeting: 23 March, 2015

Report of the Leader

Timetable of Meetings: May 2015 - May 2016

Purpose of the Report

1. To consider proposed changes to the dates of the Full Council Meetings in May 2015 and May 2016.

Recommendation

1. T H A T the dates of the Full Council meetings in May 2015 and May 2016 be as

2015 Council Meeting - 29th April

 Annual Meeting - 13th May

2016 Council Meeting - 27th April

 Annual Meeting - 11th May

Reason for the Recommendation

1. To avoid Council meetings having to take place shortly before elections in 2015 and 2016.

Background

2. Cabinet on 23rd February, 2015 considered a Timetable of Meetings for the period May 2015 - May 2016.  The timetable was approved subject to a further report being submitted setting out new dates for Full Council Meetings in May 2015 and May 2016.

Relevant Issues and Options

3. The original report to Cabinet on 23rd February, 2015 proposed that the ordinary Council Meetings in May 2015 and May 2016 be moved to a Tuesday, as the Wednesday would be the night before an election.  However, as indicated above, Cabinet resolved that further consideration be given to the dates.

4. It is now proposed that meetings take place as follows:

2015  Council Meeting - 29th April

  Annual Meeting - 13th May

2016 Council Meeting - 27th April

  Annual Meeting - 11th May.

The full Timetable of Meetings is attached at Appendix A.

Resource Implications (Financial and Employment)

5. Members will note that the dates of the Annual Meeting in both years remain unchanged.  Had the ordinary meetings been put to a later (rather than earlier) date, the dates of the Annual Meeting would also have been changed in order to avoid having two Council meetings in the same week.
