The Vale of Glamorgan Council

Council: 28th September, 2015

Report of the Managing Director

Representation on Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Group

Purpose of the Report

  1. To consider a request from the Cabinet for the Vale of Glamorgan Tourist Association to be added to the list of representatives to be invited to attend meetings of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Group.

Recommendations

  1. That the Vale of Glamorgan Tourist Association be included in the list of representatives to be invited to attend meetings of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Committee.
  2. That following approval of recommendation (1) above, the Council's Constitution be amended accordingly.

Reasons for Recommendations

(1&2)   Following a request for consideration from Cabinet and in order to amend the Council's constitution accordingly.

Background

  1. At a meeting of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Group on 17th April, 2015, the Group considered a request that a representative be sought from the Vale of Glamorgan Tourist Association to sit on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Group. The Operational Manager for Countryside and Economic Projects at that meeting advised that the request highlighted a gap on the Group from the tourism sector and that such representations would fit well with current priorities. The Group then recommended to Cabinet that an appointment be sought.
  2. Cabinet considered the recommendation on 11th May, 2015, with the Cabinet Member for Regeneration advising that having a representative from the tourism sector would fit well within the remit of the Advisory Group. Cabinet subsequently resolved that the recommendation of the Advisory Group be accepted and a representative be sought from the Vale of Glamorgan Tourist Association and the appointment recommended to the next available Council.

Relevant Issues and Options

  1. Following a discussion with the Vale Tourist Association and an officer from the Democratic Services Team the organisation has confirmed that, if approved by Full Council, they would be more than happy to accept an invitation for a representative to be invited to attend meetings of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Group.
  2. For Members' information, membership of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Advisory Group is currently as follows
  • Chairman - Councillor Audrey Preston
  • Vice-Chairman - Councillor Ray Thomas
  • Councillors Lis Burnett, Rob Curtis, John Drysdale, Val Hartrey and Christopher Williams.

With one representative from each of the following being invited to attend:

  • National Farmers Union/Farmers Union of Wales/Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group
  • Glamorgan Wildlife Trust

  • To act as a forum for discussion twice yearly with major interest groups and appropriate organisations
  • To promote awareness and interest in the Glamorgan Heritage Coast
  • To report discussions to the Cabinet and to advise on relevant matters.
  1. The Vale of Glamorgan Tourist Association would therefore be an addition to the organisations represented and listed, as outlined in 5 above.
