SINGLE ENVIRONMENTAL BODY

 

Set out below is a statement from the Environment Minister, John Griffiths, issued on 29th November, 2011:

 

Today, the Environment Minister John Griffiths has taken the decision to create a single body to bring together the Forestry Commission Wales, Countryside Council for Wales and the Environment Agency Wales.

 

Over the last few months, a programme team made up of staff from the three bodies and the Welsh Government have put together a business case to suggest the creation of a single body, and the Minister has now approved this.

 

It is expected that the new body will be vested on the 1st April 2013.

 

A consultation on the role and functions of the new body will begin in January 2012, with the first public appointments to the new body in summer 2012.  The consultation will be a opportunity for you to tell us what you think the new body should look like and how it could be implemented.

Having looked at the above website, it appears that the consultation period will last from 9th February until 2nd May, 2012.
