Standards Conference Wales 2015

 

Purpose of the Report

  1. To update Members of the Committee on the Standards Conference Wales 2015 which was held on 20th October, 2015.

Recommendation

That the update be noted.

Reason for the Recommendation

Having regard to the contents of the report.

Background

  1. The Standards Conference was held in Cardiff on 20th October, 2015.
  2. In addition to the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer of each Council in Wales, each Authority had been allocated up to four places at the Conference.
  3. The Standards Committee was represented at the Conference by Mr. Hallett and Town Councillor Cuddy.

  1. Attached for the information of the Committee are copies of papers used during the Conference Workshops, as follows:

Appendix A - Are the Nolan Principles fit for purpose now and in 20 years?

Appendix B - Community and Town Councils - Governance and Standards.

Appendix C - Whistleblowing.

Appendix D - Local Resolution Process - Practicalities and the RCT Experience - Future Role?

Appendix E - Social Media - Staying Out of Trouble.

  1. Cardiff Council has produced a summary of the conference presentations, and a copy is attached at Appendix F.

Resource Implications (Financial and Employment)

  1. The cost was £50 per delegate, with four delegates permitted from each Unitary Authority.
