We will do this by implementing a comprehensive programme of regeneration across the Vale including:
The Rural Local Development Strategy

Barry Waterfront including the Barry Island

We recognise the importance of living in a safe and clean environment and will introduce a revised enforcement policy to reduce litter, fly tipping and dog fouling offences. We will also continue to work with the Vale's Biodiversity Partnership to deliver the Local Biodiversity Action Plan and respect, conserve and enhance the local environment.

We will continue to invest in our transport infrastructure, promoting cycling and the use of public transport and improving road safety. Examples of specific activities include the design of a bus/cycle/walk route from Weycock Cross to Cardiff Airport and working with Welsh Government to delivery Improvements to Five Mile Lane.

Tourism will continue to be a priority. We will create an attractive tourism destination with a positive image for the Vale of Glamorgan, capitalising on the Heritage Coast and the proximity to Cardiff, encouraging sustainable development and quality facilities to enrich the experience for visitors and residents.

The Council is also commissioning new properties to increase the amount of social housing in the Vale to help meet local needs. The Council will be building the first new council owned housing in the county for 17 years and £3million has been budgeted for the building of new homes in 2016/17. Plans for the new homes, to be built on land near to Holm View and Francis Road in Barry, are currently being finalised and it is expected that applications for planning permissions will be submitted in the coming weeks. If planning permission is granted construction work at the Francis Road could start on site as soon as September 2016
This is in addition to the extensive work to council homes which is taking place as part of the Welsh Housing Quality Standard and is improving the standard of homes across the Vale.
