Tenant Engagement Strategy

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is looking to introduce a new Tenant Engagement Strategy


There is a requirement for social landlords in Wales to produce local Tenant Participation strategies setting out how they will engage with residents to deliver high quality services.


The current strategy was written back in 2010 and helped drive improvements in the way tenants can get involved and influence services they receive. The need for a new Strategy was identified in 2017 and is a priority in the Council’s forward work programme.


A broad range of background work and tenant consultation has informed the document. This includes a tenant satisfaction survey of all Council tenants, an in depth survey of tenant involvement, feedback from the tenant working group and a review of best practise in the housing sector.


A number of strengths have been identified, however there is scope for a number of improvements to further strengthen tenant engagement.


The new Strategy sets out four key objectives to drive improvements:


• Making Tenant Engagement an integral part of the Council’s business;

• Providing opportunities for all tenants to be engaged and broaden current levels of engagement;

• Building capacity of tenants to make a difference via support, training and development opportunities; and

• Using feedback from a wide range of tenants and uses this to drive improvements in services.
