Road Safety Funding for Barry

Published Wednesday 02 April 2014

The Vale of Glamorgan Council will benefit from nearly £450,000 of Safe Routes in Communities funding from the Welsh Government for the coming financial year.

Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “I was delighted to hear that the Council has been awarded a total grant of £444, 599 for road safety schemes in Barry. The bids were worked up in partnership with local Councillors, the Police, and PACT groups, and this is clear evidence of the success and progress we can achieve when working together.

This is extremely good news for the residents and communities of Barry and follows the excellent news earlier this week that agreements to bring forward the construction of Barry island Link Road have now been finalised.”

The schemes to be delivered are as follows:

  • Shared footway / cycleway Barry Comprehensive School to Waycock Cross
  • Upgrade of zebra crossing to puffin crossing on Barry Road outside Jenner Park School
  • Upgrade of zebra crossing to puffin Buttrills Road and 20mph zone.
