Dragon Sport Hockey Festival is a Major Hit

Six schools entering a total of nine teams took part in the Vale Sports Development Team’s hockey festival as part of the Dragon Sport programme, funded by Sport Wales.
Pupils from Romilly, Palmerston, Sully, Llangan, Pen-y-Garth and St Baruc gathered at Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School and took part in a series of 7 a side hockey matches with no goalkeepers, making for some very open games.
The Hockey festival was part of the Vale Council’s Commonwealth Games ‘G14’ plan to increase participation in sport by using the Commonwealth Games as a tool to inspire and get more people involved in sport.
The teams were joined by Cllr Gwyn John, as well as Judith Powell, the Vale Hockey agent and Richard Jones, Hockey Wales regional delivery manager for South Wales.
Dragon Sport is a national scheme administered locally by the Vale Council’s Sports Development team, and aims to increase the number of 7-11 year olds participating in sport.
