Mobile Library Pops Up in Barry
Published 14 August 2014
The new pop-up library service was officially launched at Baltimore House, Barry on Friday 8 August.
Residents and visitors enjoyed sitting down in the conservatory with a good book along with refreshments provided by the staff to welcome back the mobile service.
The pop-up library, delivered by the Vale of Glamorgan Council with the majority of the funding coming from Barry Town Council, visits care homes and sheltered housing projects around Barry giving people who are unable to get to the library the opportunity to choose their own books at home.
Cllr Stuart Egan, Cabinet Member for Adult Services said: “It’s great to see this service up and running, reaching those readers who lost out when the Mobile Library service was cancelled in 2011, and we’re really pleased that the initial response has been so positive. There is scope to extend the service further in Barry if other homes come forward and express an interest.”
At present the service operates on a Friday, visiting each venue for an hour every third week. Any care homes or Housing Associations not currently making use of the service may phone the Library Service Outreach Officer, Andrea Griffiths on 01446 725381 for further details and to arrange a visit.
