Employment Unit Helps 500th Jobseeker
8 December 2014
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Business and Employment Unit has helped hundreds of local jobseekers find suitable employment since the Work Programme began in 2011.
And with the help and support of the team, Vale resident Adam Hughes has become number 500, having settled into a position with the Council’s HR Department.
Cllr Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Innovation, Planning and Transportation, added: “The Council is delighted to play a part in securing sustainable work for Vale of Glamorgan residents. It’s important that we make links between regeneration projects and local people to make sure they feel the benefits of economic growth in the area. We are also working with ASDA to help residents access the new jobs being created when their Waterfront store opens in Barry.”
The Business and Employment Unit, based in the Business Service Centre at the Innovation Quarter on Barry Waterfront, delivers the Work Programme in partnership with JobFit, and continues to support unemployed people who have been referred to the Council by local Job Centres.
The team offers courses on how to write a CV, interview skills, and IT classes to help customers achieve their goal of reaching sustainable employment. The Employment team also arranges voluntary work placements and work trials.
Any local employers that are planning to recruit in the near future and willing to give local people an opportunity can contact the team on 01446 704873/874 or email email@example.com for more information.
