Free compost available once again
30 December 2014
From January 2015, Vale of Glamorgan residents will once again be able to collect free compost.
Cowbridge Compost, the company that deals with the Vale’s food and green garden waste, will deliver a supply every month to the Court Road Depot in Barry.
Residents will be able to collect compost between the hours of 10am and 2pm on the last Sunday of month with the exception of December.
Cllr Rob Curtis, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said: “I am pleased to see an important and much-missed service reinstated by the Council. We are committed to recycling as much as possible to reduce our carbon footprint, and schemes like this make a vital contribution to that goal.”
The existing free wood chipping collection will still run as normal on the last Sunday of the month.
John Homfray of Cowbridge Compost said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Council in reinstating this popular and environmentally friendly service to the residents of the Vale.”
Residents are advised, when collecting the compost, to bring a shovel, a suitable container, protective gloves and suitable footwear.
