From Monday 20 January 2014, a new trial bus service will operate Monday to Friday between 8:15am and 6:15pm and offer transport from Llantwit Major to Cowbridge and Cowbridge to Bridgend Town Centre, linking 17 Vale of Glamorgan villages and hamlets.
The Vale’s Leader Neil Moore and Councillor Lis Burnett were pleased to welcome the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Edwina Hart to the Council’s offices in Barry last week to experience first-hand the Greenlinks Community Transport Service.
The Minister said: “I am pleased to see the Vale of Glamorgan is trialling this service to meet the public transport needs of rural areas. I want to see new solutions for delivering an efficient, sustainable bus service across Wales and look forward to seeing how the new Greenlinks service performs.”
As well as the popular door to door bus service Greenlinks provides its members, the Minister was informed of the introduction of a new ‘on-demand’ flexible bus service from Llantwit Major to Bridgend via Cowbridge which will be available to anyone who books it.
Councillor Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Innovation, Planning and Transportation said: “The Leader and I welcomed the opportunity to brief the Minister on our Greenlinks bus service and we also explained how the new bus service will provide an essential currently missing link between Llantwit Major, Cowbridge and Bridgend. As the service is being introduced on a trial basis, the Council will be monitoring usage, so I urge people to pick up the phone or visit our website and reserve their seats.”
Fares on this new service will range between £3 and £4 return for adults and £1-50 to £2-00 return for children. Passengers will be able to use their Welsh concessionary travel passes on the service.
This bus service will also serve the villages of Llanmaes, Sigingstone, Llandow, Llysworney, Llanblethian , Pentre Meyrick, Penllyn, Craig Penllyn, City, Ruthin, St Mary Hill, Fferm Goch, Llangan, Treoes, Colwinston, Corntown and Ewenny.
Pick-up and drop off points will be from bus stops or agreed locations. Pick up times will be agreed the day before travel.
To request a seat on this service please call 0800 294 1113 by 12 noon, one working day before travel. Regular weekly bookings will also be accepted and if you plan to be a regular user, you will be able to book multiple trips by one phone call.
