Bright Future Unveiled for Hydraulic Pumphouse

An ambitious multi million pound concept has been announced to bring the grade II Listed Hydraulic Pumphouse at Barry Waterfront back into use.


Pumphouse Artists ImpressionConsultation will be undertaken as part of the planning process, which proposes 15 live/work units on a first floor, with the ground floor and basement areas converted into high quality commercial units such as restaurants.


An impressive new paved and landscaped plaza will also be created providing attractive outdoor seating areas alongside the restaurants. The property, located near to rail, bus, cycling and pedestrian links, will also have convenient onsite parking.


The DS Properties scheme is anticipated to create an estimated 30 construction jobs and up to 65 operational jobs when fully completed.


Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cllr Neil Moore, commented: “I am delighted DS Properties will be providing a bright future for this historic property.


“Urban regeneration is always very challenging, but the bold decision of the Council and Welsh Government to invest £1.4 million in the refurbishment of the building has helped save this important part of Barry’s heritage for the benefit of the wider community.”


The Hydraulic Pumphouse is a flagship regeneration project within the Innovation Quarter, a joint venture between the Vale Council and Welsh Government which has already seen the delivery of the Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre, West Quay Medical Centre, the Business Service Centre, the Skills Training Centre and Tourist Railway link.
