Sunshine brings out the crowds at annual Family Fun Day

Another successful Flying Start Fun Day event was held on the 23 July at Victoria Park.
The sunshine drew out crowds of children and their families to the annual event that has been running for the last 4 years.
This event also involved the wider participation of other key partners including Families First, Communities First, Adult Education, Shine, Healthy Schools, Partnership for Young Parents Team, Food Co-operative, and Both Parents Matter all working together to deliver a successful day out for families.
The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the broad range of services that are available to Flying Start and non-Flying Start families, and it also provided a great opportunity for families to effectively engage with the Flying Start team in a more social environment.
This year’s theme focused around health aspects of service delivery across the variety of partners that were represented at the event. There were displays on making healthy eating and drinking choices, the distribution of free water and fruit pots as well as the promotion of immunisations and raising the profile of breast feeding awareness and support.
Over 300 families attended the fun day and enjoyed participating in a variety of activities ranging from craft sessions to soft play and obstacle courses whilst others relaxed with picnics in the sunshine.
One Flying Start parent commented: “I have received Flying Start services for the last 4 years and have really got to know the staff well. I always look forward to these fun days, as they give me a chance to meet other families and chat with the staff to get their advice and support.”
The Flying Start Health Manager commented: “It was fantastic to see so many people interested in learning more about healthy eating in the home and to see that the health messages are successfully being taken on board. We are now looking forward to planning another successful event next year.”
The Flying Start Manager was impressed by the turn out for the event and thanked all staff and the key partners for their commitment and hard work at making this event such a success.
