Community Chest Creates Confident Coaches across the County
Published 27 June 2014
12 coaches from clubs across the Vale of Glamorgan recently attended an Analysing Your Coaching course as part of the Vale Councils’ Creating Confident Coaches programme.
This is only one of a number of coach education courses run by the Council’s Sports & Play Development team, which is looking to improve the level of coaching across the Vale.
Many other courses will be taking place in the future as part of the Creating Confident Coaches programme, including First Aid and Coaching the Whole Child.
The development of coaches and officials has long been a priority for the Community Chest panel. Between April 2013 and March 2014 there were 455 coach and umpire course opportunities, 140 sports specific coaching opportunities, and an additional 147 generic coaching courses including 67 first aid courses, 62 safeguarding courses and others such as Deaf Awareness and Sports Leaders.
Further to these, as part of the Active Young People programme delivered by the Sports & Play Development Team, a Young Leaders pathway has been put in place which aims to identify and develop future coaches and sports volunteers. Last year more than 104 young people attended a range of training courses, and the programme continues to run this year.
