A team of year 5 and 6 pupils from St Illtyd Primary School reached the final of the Welsh Book Council’s Book Slam competition.

The finals, held at Theatr Brychenien in Brecon on 17 June, saw twelve schools from across Wales competing for the title.

Teams had to compete in two tasks, a drama sketch from a chosen book, and a group discussion on a second book that pupils had read together.

Despite being narrowly beaten to the top spot, a fantastic sketch taken from Daniel Morden’s Tales of the Dark Wood and an in-depth discussion on Silent Mountain by Michelle Briscombe led to the team being awarded the runner-up prize of £125 worth of book vouchers.
