Over 200 pupils from Ashgrove, Ysgol Erw’r Delyn, Ysgol Maes Dyfan, St Helens and St Nicholas Primary Schools took part in the Vale Schools Paragames at Cardiff International Sports Stadium on Wednesday 25 June.

The day was organised by teachers from Ashgrove, Ysgol Erw’r Delyn and Ysgol Maes Dyfan and supported by Simon Jones, Disability Sport Wales Development Officer.

Vale paragamesEach pupil took part in numerous events throughout the day that included sprints, long jump, and a range of throwing events. The events were organised so pupils of every ability could take part in a competitive setting.

15 Pupils from St Cyres School in Penarth volunteered on the day to help with the running of events and supporting the athletes when taking part in the activities.

Every pupil received a goody bag from the Welsh Rugby Union who provided inclusive activities throughout the day for the athletes whilst they were waiting to compete.

The Vale of Glamorgan Play Department was also present providing face painting and glitter tattoos for everyone at the stadium.

Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Sport Development, and Disability Sport Wales Performance Athlete Ashleigh Hellyer attended to view the events taking place and present the winning pupils with medals.

Simon Jones said: “This is the second year the Paragames have taken place with great success. It is brilliant to see that every pupil is catered for and have the opportunity to take part in competitive sport. I would like to thank the teachers for organising such a fantastic event; a lot of hard work has gone into the day and the success was mirrored by the reaction of the pupils taking part.”
