Published 13 May 2014

'N’dubz' a team from Cardiff and Vale College have won this year’s Adult Boccia League as the sport continues to go from strength to strength within the Vale.

BocciaBoccia, which very similar to French boules or pétanque, is more popular than ever in the Vale. A total of 12 teams took part in this year's league. The sport was originally created for those with cerebral palsy but is now widely played by individuals of all abilities.

The eventual winners, who were playing in the league for only their second season, contested the final against the Boccia Roller Royals. The match was won in the final end after a very close encounter.

Incredibly N’Dubz went through the whole league undefeated, especially with the standard of play being very high among the opposition teams.

The Boccia Roller Scarlets beat Hengoleg’s Fry’s Turkish Delight in the 3rd v 4th playoff match which concluded who would finish in the top 3.

Councillor Gwyn John, the Vale’s Cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism attended the matches where he presented trophies and plaques to the winning teams during the ceremony.

Simon Jones, the Vale’s Disability Sport Wales Development Officer commented: “The Boccia league is growing in popularity throughout the Vale with more teams and players entering this year than in the previous few years. The standard of Boccia was very high, which is a credit to the players taking part as well as their coaches. Hopefully the league can grow again next year with more teams entering.”
