The Vale of Glamorgan Council has secured a grant of £120,000 to refurbish Llantwit Major Library. This will be added to £130,000 previously set aside by the Council to provide a total investment of over a quarter of a million pounds into the building.

The Cabinet approved the recommendation that the grant should be used to upgrade the library on Monday 12 May, a decision which will see Llantwit Major Library transformed.

Cllr Stuart Egan, Deputy Leader of the Council and the Cabinet Member responsible for Library Services, said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing the best library service possible.

The Council has funded improvements to the exterior of Llantwit Major Library in recent years. However, further investment is needed in order to modernise the interior and make it attractive and easier to use. This is what this extra investment will be used for.

As part of the improvements the most popular library features and staff facilities at the library are to be moved to one end of the building. This will free up the main public space and allow for a new flexible design and easier access. New lighting and a new heating system will be added and these will improve the building’s energy efficiency and help save money in the long term.

Once this improvement work is complete Llantwit Major will have a top class library building for the local community to enjoy.”

The improvement work which will begin shortly will also see new disabled toilet facilities installed, as well as major renovations to the outside of the building which will create a brighter and more welcoming library.
