Youth Cabinet visit Westminster

Youth Cabinet visit WestminsterPublished 06 November 2014

After the inauguration of the first Vale of Glamorgan Youth Cabinet, Alun Cairns MP for the Vale of Glamorgan invited the newly elected Youth Cabinet to Westminster.

On Monday 3 November 2014, the Youth Cabinet, including newly elected Youth Mayor Tom Chandler and Deputy Mayor Emily Peters, toured the Houses of Parliament and met their local MPs. The Youth Cabinet took part in a Q&A session with both Vale MP Alun Cairns and Stephen Doughty MP for Penarth and Cardiff South. Discussions surrounded the representation of young people at a national level, changes happening within the Vale, and lowering the voting age.

Whilst the Youth Mayor and Youth Cabinet are non-political groups and exist to represent the views of young people to decision-makers and champion children and young people’s rights, it was interesting to hear perspectives from Westminster.

The Youth Cabinet would like to thank Alun Cairns MP for arranging the visit and to both MPs for meeting with them. They look forward to working with them in the future to ensure the views of young people in the Vale are listened to not only on a local level but also at Westminster.
