Barry-born boxer Lee Selby has won plaudits from across the country after he won his World Title Eliminator fight against Joel Brunker on Saturday 11 October.
Lee could now go on to fight for the IBF featherweight world title against the current holder Russia's Evgeny Gradovich, provided he defends his title against challenger Jayson Velez in November.
Selby, who spent some time training at Barry’s Jenner Park Stadium this summer, dominated the fight before the referee called a stop in the ninth round.
Cllr Gwyn John, who watched the fight, said: “Lee was absolutely fantastic; what a performance. Everyone in Barry and Wales can be proud of him. He is a great ambassador for the Vale of Glamorgan.
“I met Lee a few months ago to wish him well, and watching him tonight he showed us just how good he is. I am delighted for him, and I will be there to watch him win the World Title. Good luck Lee. Another performance like that and the title will be yours.”
