Libraries across the Vale of Glamorgan took part in the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge 2014 to help promote reading skills amongst children.

And more than 300 children joined in at Cowbridge Library this summer.

Y Bont Faen took part in the challengeThe Summer Reading Challenge is open to all school children and is designed for all reading abilities.

The challenge encourages children to read as much as possible over the summer. Children can read whatever they like – fact books, joke books, picture books, and audio books – just as long as they are borrowed from their library, and every time children finish a book they get stickers and rewards, with a certificate for everyone who completes the challenge.

Melanie Weeks, Librarian at Cowbridge Library, said: “This has been a bumper year for the Summer Reading Challenge at Cowbridge Library. Congratulations to all those who took part and completed the challenge.”

Research has shown that taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge can help children keep up their reading skills during the long summer holiday. A record 810,089 children took part in the 2013 Summer Reading Challenge in the United Kingdom.
