Pupils at Ysgol Nant Talwg invited Vale AM Jane Hutt and Cllr Chris Elmore to officially open their new building.

The new building, delivered by ISG and Stride Treglown, boasts a model school template with a compact and efficient floor plan. It is the first practical application of a model school template in Wales.

The expansion was funded by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and the Welsh Government as part of the 21st Century Schools programme.

And the investment of almost £2.75million came just in time, as the new school is projected to accommodate over 200 pupils by September 2017.

Cllr Chris Elmore, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “The new building looks fantastic, and has been finished to an excellent standard. I’m sure the pupils will be more than happy learning here.

“The expansion will also go a long way to meeting the demand for Welsh medium education in the Vale.”

The project helped train over twenty apprentices, trainees, and graduates, with four apprentices finding full time positions with companies within the supply chain. There were over 200 site-based training weeks, and more than £2500 was invested in the community and local supply chain.

The new building also benefits from a number of energy saving measures including PV panels, and has been awarded an EPC A rating, and an Excellent BREEAM assessment.
