Great Turn Out for Sports and Play Family Fun Days

Published 05 September 2014

This summer saw the Vale Council’s Sports and Play Development Team work in partnership with Barry Town Council to run two Family Fun Days.

Held in Alexandra Gardens to celebrate National Play Day, the first fun day was a successful event attracting more than 250 children, young people and their families throughout the event, participating in a range of play and sports activities together.

The second Family Fun Day took place at Maslin Gardens and whilst the poor weather deterred some people from attending, over 100 people did attend throughout the event and had an enjoyable experience trying out a range of activities including junk modelling, arts and crafts and sports activities.

Barry Town Council provided funding for both of the events and Cllr Jeff Evans, Mayor of Barry Town Council attended to show his support, saying: "It has given me great pleasure in the past few weeks to be invited to open the Children’s Fun Days at both Maslin Park and Alexandra Gardens.

Joanne Jones, Play Development Officer for the Vale of Glamorgan Council and organiser of the events, said: "Children have enjoyed a range of activities during these events and it is all down to a successful partnership between Barry Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Sports & Play Development Team. We would like thank Barry Town Council for their support and hope we can continue working in partnership in the future."
