Penarth Leisure Centre pool almost there

The vast majority of the work required to make the swimming Pool at Penarth Leisure operational, following the fire earlier this year, has now been completed.

A large scaffolding platform that was required to give access to the pool hall ceiling is currently being dismantled and work has now commenced on replacing the grouting in the actual swimming pool. It was hoped that this re-grouting could be avoided by deep cleaning but unfortunately this has not proved possible.

The final stages of this work are likely to take a further 4 weeks with the pool likely to reopen shortly afterwards.

An exact re-opening date will be made available on the Council’s website as soon as it is known.

Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “I am disappointed that we haven’t been able to open the pool sooner, but I’m sure customers appreciate that it is extremely important that the pool is fully repaired and safe to use.”
