Work to start on Llantwit Major Library

Published 15 September 2014

The library on Boverton Road Llantwit Major will be closed from Monday 22 September in order for major improvements to be made.

The £250,000 project is funded by a grant from the Welsh Government along with funding from the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The work will include remodelling the inside of the library to create a bright and attractive space, upgrading the lighting and heating to make the building more efficient, and improving the external appearance and access to the library.

While the building work is undertaken the library service will temporarily relocate to the Old School on Wine Street, Llantwit Major. The temporary library will offer a full book lending service from Monday 29 September until the refurbished library reopens in early January 2015.

Opening hours at the Old School from Monday 29 September will be Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5.30pm, and Saturday, 9am to 5pm.

As well as a good range of books and other materials the library will continue to provide regular storytimes for children and provide several computers for internet access.

The new location has parking, is easy to find at the centre of the town and should prove convenient for most people. However, for any customers who cannot get to the library as often, there is also the option of online access to renew and reserve books and also to download eBooks, eAudio books and eMagazines.

For more information about how to use these services library customers should ask staff for details and a pin, or go online for information to www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/libraries. Information about library progress will be posted regularly on the library Facebook page and Twitter account.
