Council welcomes Pleasure Park opening

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has welcomed the news that the Barry Island Pleasure Park is set to reopen on Friday 3 April, just in time for the Easter weekend.

Rob Thomas, Director of Development Services, was involved from the beginning in negotiations between developers Hilco and funfair operator Henry Danter in order to try and reach an agreement.

He said: “It’s very positive to see progress being made in re-using the site. The Council has been negotiating with the site owners and Mr Danter for a considerable period of time to ensure that the funfair site is brought back into beneficial use for everyone, particularly given the recent regeneration of the promenade. Up until now, the appearance of the funfair site has been in stark contrast to the remainder of the island which has seen considerable enhancement over recent years.

“It’s been a difficult journey, but now we are very eager to see the funfair to be brought back to life and Barry Island restored to its former glory. The re-use of the funfair site is long overdue and represents another significant step forward in bringing increased confidence to Barry Island and enhancing its reputation as a must visit destination.”
