Invitation to express an interest in running a community led library
01 April 2015
Following a review of library services in the Vale of Glamorgan and consultation with residents and library users, it has been decided to explore the development of community led libraries in Dinas Powys, Rhoose, Wenvoe, Sully and St Athan. We are now seeking expressions of interest from groups interested in running one or more of these libraries.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking to develop these libraries in conjunction with local communities. The Council will continue to provide the book stock, peripatetic professional librarian support and back up support which can be accessed through any of the four town libraries based at Penarth, Barry, Cowbridge and Llantwit Major. We will also support the recruitment and training of volunteers. ICT equipment would be transferred to the community group and agreements would need to be entered into in respect of the future maintenance and ownership of the library buildings.
To progress the development of community led libraries it has been agreed that expressions of interest in running one or more of the libraries at Dinas Powys, Rhoose, Wenvoe, Sully and St Athan are being sought from interested groups by 5:00pm on 18 May 2015.
If you would like to express an interest in running a community library in the Vale then simply return a completed expression of interest form to AMBorsden@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk ahead of the closing date.
When we receive expressions of interest we will then consider your development of a business case for running the library or libraries in question. A guidance pack will be provided in due course for this purpose and proportional support will be available to assist the development of a business case if required. Your completed business cases should be submitted by 12 July 2015. The viability of any business cases submitted will be assessed and then a decision will be made on whether or not to transfer the library to the community.
