Sports clubs within the Vale of Glamorgan hosted free taster sessions and open days throughout March for local women and girls.

13 clubs in the local area signed up to take part in the event to encourage more women and girls to become physically active. Each of the clubs provided open days or taster sessions for free to promote activities on offer to women and girls in the Vale of Glamorgan.

As a result, over 150 women and girls accessed sports activities at the participating clubs, with Windsor Tennis Club leading the way and attracting over 100 female participants. Other successful clubs included Penarth Rowing Club and Vale Women and Girls Football Club.

Ben Williams, AYP Officer for the Vale of Glamorgan, said: “This was a great opportunity for local clubs to promote the many sports activities that take place in the local area. We wanted to show what’s available for women and girls and are pleased the #MarchonGirls campaign was a success.”

Rob Wedlake, Tennis Coach at Windsor Tennis Club, said: “We were delighted with the take-up and feedback from the #MarchOnGirls campaign which helped us to attract a raft of new players to our club at an annual Open Day. More than 250 children, parents and adult tennis players visited us for a variety of coaching and social tennis activities, of which at least half were female. As a result we will now be running ladies-only Tennis Tuesday sessions from 5th May, and offering further girls and ladies taster sessions during the Wimbledon fortnight.”
