Cardiff City Council’s Trading Standards Officers are warning residents of hoax council telephone calls.

Trading Standards in Cardiff has again received a number of complaints from residents reporting that they are getting telephone calls from people claiming to be working for the council.

It is currently understood that callers are being asked different types of questions including if they live alone or if they have been in an accident.

What is known is that the main purpose of these calls is to obtain personal data and bank account details.

Trading Standards urge residents to refrain from giving away such information, as this could lead to identity theft and fraudulent access to bank accounts. It is recommended to not give such details to any cold-caller.
