The Vale Council’s Sports and Play Development Team recently held a successful and well-attended play scheme in Dinas Powys at the Murchfield Community Centre for children aged 4 to 11.

The play scheme, jointly funded by Dinas Powys Community Council and The United Welsh Housing Association, saw 156 children taking part in a variety of play and sports activities.

There were arts and crafts activities taking place within the hall whilst outside, play, den building and sports activities such as badminton, rugby and tennis took place on the sports field and tennis courts, with a visit from the Fire Service delighting the children in attendance, and a film showing of Despicable Me capping off the week.

The Vale Food Bank ensured that all the children started the day with breakfast whilst Morrisons of Barry sponsored the play scheme with healthy snacks to help keep the kids going.

Feedback from the schemes so far has been very positive, with one parent saying: “What fun. Well-organised, friendly staff – shame it isn’t for the six weeks.”

Further play schemes will be taking place throughout the summer holidays. To find out further information please contact the Sports and Play Development Team on 01446 704793.
