Barry Camera club launched their annual photographic exhibition this month at the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Art Central Gallery.
Founded in 1901, the club is firmly established as one of South Wales’ most well renowned photographic organisations.
The exhibition was officially opened by Jane Hutt AM, who spoke of her gratitude to have been invited once again to open the annual exhibition and commented on how “Barry camera club has grown and adapted to the vast changes in technology, displaying a great deal of talent.”
Guests to the launch were then welcomed by the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Cllr Fred Johnson, who expressed his delight at the high standard of the exhibition. Cllr Johnson then introduced Cllr Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, who commented on photography’s intrinsic role in documenting the regeneration of an area.
The Chairman of Barry Camera Club, Mike Lewis thanked guests and members for attending and for their hard work in the lead up to the exhibition. Special thanks went to Jan Cawley, past president of the Welsh Photographic Federation, for judging the photographs for this 2015 exhibition, and to the Gallery Manager, Tracey Harding, for supporting the club over the years, and to the Vale of Glamorgan Council for providing gallery space in which to showcase the work.
The exhibition boasts over eighty photographs and displays the very best work produced over the past year. The photographs are displayed as a slide show on the gallery’s monitor and include landscapes, portraits, animals, insects, picturesque and contemporary industrial scenes. The exhibition runs until 05 September 2015.
