Barry Island Traffic Management - New Year’s Day 2016
30 December 2015
Barry Island will be busy on 01 January 2016 as more than one thousand people are expected to start the New Year with a trip to South Wales’ premier seaside resort.
It is expected that hundreds of hardy swimmers will brave the waters of Whitmore Bay for the annual Barry Island New Year’s Day swim, now in its 31st year, and that many more supporters will visit the resort to cheer them on and celebrate the event.
The New Year’s Day swim starts at 12pm and Barry Island is likely to be busy for much of the day with a Park Run and fitness sessions also taking place on the recently refurbished eastern promenade.
To ensure that access to the resort is not disrupted by the construction of the new Barry Island link road the Vale of Glamorgan Council will be opening the Nell’s Point car park and will have traffic management officers stationed at key points to keep traffic moving. All visitors are advised to make sure they arrive at the resort in plenty of time.
For those who are looking for a slightly less hair-raising way of burning off some Christmas calories the Vale of Glamorgan’s two country parks, Porthkerry and Cosmeston, will be open as usual as will the county’s six green flag parks and gardens.
