04 December 2015

Barry Youth Action, the youth council for the town, has launched a Christmas appeal to give a smile to children with cancer in Barry and the surrounding region this Christmas.

Local youth councillors are seeking donations of small gifts for the Welsh Children’s charity LATCH. The young volunteers will be wrapping the gifts before passing them onto LATCH to distribute.

A spokesperson for Barry Youth Action said: "We are all determined to make a positive difference in the lives of children, young people and the community as a whole, and this is one way that they can help make a difference to those in need this Christmas."

The youth council first started fundraising for LATCH at the hugely successful youth event #YouthTime, held in Kings Square in September.

LATCH supports children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales. Further information about LATCH can be found at www.latchwales.org.

Donations can be made direct to youth councillors or by visiting the Barry Town Council office on Gladstone Road. All gifts need to be delivered by Monday 14th December 2015.

Barry Youth Action is a partnership project between Barry Town Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service. Young people aged between 11 and 18 are elected by their peers from local schools and youth organisations to represent the views and ideas of young people to decision-makers, and take action on behalf of the town’s young people.
